What is the purpose of a Power Supply Module?
Power supply module is an essential and necessary component of the control system; it is used to regulate and supply voltage for various components. Usually, the outlet voltage from the wall socket is high-and unusable by the computer because the computer requires a low voltage DC, the power supply modules help in regulating the supply of excess or high voltage.
Functions of a Power Supply Module
- Converts AC to DC: One important use of a power supply module is to convert AC to DC so that power can be utilized by the computer. It allows the motherboard and operating system to control power supply by producing a 5- volt signal.
- Distributes DC voltage to other components: This is another important purpose of the power supply module. Several cables with some connectors enter and leave the power supply. The power source also has several other cables that supply and regulate power to the various components of the computer.
- Provides cooling to the computer: The Power supply module also has a fan which circulates air in the computer. The power source uses a technique known as reverse flow cooling to achieve a moderately cool temperature inside the system; the air blows especially over the processors and memory to ensure they are cool at all time.
